Superintendent Lavallee Calls for Death Penalty for all Non-Compliant Liquor Sales

LOWELL — The License Commission is jeopardizing public safety with “lenient” rulings against alcohol-serving businesses that violate state liquor laws, Police Superintendent Kenneth Lavallee charges.

Lavallee aired his concerns in an interview with The Sun and in a three-page letter to City Manager Bernie Lynch, who said he shares Lavallee’s concerns.

All three commission members — who are appointed by the city manager — rebut Lavallee’s charges.

Was this story by Christopher Scott, or Geraldo?  Totally gripping from start to finish.  I’m surprised he wasn’t able to place someone from the Akashian family as a possible member of Al Qaeda.

Kenneth Lavallee: “In my opinion, the License Commission has failed in its obligation to take the necessary steps to ensure public safety in the city of Lowell.”

No offense there Chief…but the whole ensuring public safety thing generally falls on the shoulders of well, you know, the police.  I mean, we’re not counting on Weicker, and Akashian to quell the turf war between TRG and the Asain Boyz are we?  When Wally Baylis isn’t deciding if the Mambo Grill can serve fruity margaritas, is he dressed in “civvies” doing undercover heroin buys?

It’s the license commission, not congress….just like Quaker Ken is the police superintendent, not Chief Justice Roberts.  If he thinks there are too many “Hooligans” roaming the streets of Lowell, than dust off the cuffs and go after them instead of waiting for them to show up in the weekly sobriety check points, or pining for the License Commission to rid the city of booze and all it’s evils.

Bernie Lynch: “I share the chief’s concerns, and I’m monitoring the situation closely and we’re considering our legal options,” the city manager said.

No offense Bern, but when you’ve chosen boutique eateries as the back bone of your cities economic future, you might want to consider getting yourself on the same page as the guy who fancies himself as the leader of the City of Lowell temperance movement.

  1. Thank god for the Chief. It isn’t the gangs in Lowell keeping me up at night, it is the thought that somewhere out there a 17 year old boy got his hands on a six pack of Schlitz.

  2. Wow…more petty infighting over a package store selling to a minor, and then getting punished.

    Alive, unique, inspiring.

  3. As much as Ken Lavallee, thinks things are out of control, I’d say it’s much harder for underage individuals to secure liquor.

I would think the License Commision is pretty fair when it comes to dishing out punishment. From the sounds of things, it doesn’t seem like there would be any benefit to giving a shithole like Turcotte’s a break. It’s not like the city planning board…which is a total shit show.

  4. Mr.Manager seems a little too preoccupied with other shananigans to deal with this nonsense.

  5. Maybe Lavallee could take a time out from doing liquor stings and spend a little time clearing the crackheads from lower bridge street.

  6. Are there a lot of crackheads on bridge street? I thought they were all hanging out in couples square?
